Strategy Director

Strategy Director
To be based in East Africa, this multinational client seeks the expertise of a Strategy Director with previous financial strategy consulting experience to join their team.
Directors are expected to contribute to the firm’s growth and development in a variety of ways, including:
Problem Solving
  • Act as an advanced specialist performing complex duties requiring expert knowledge
  • Has advanced technical and practical knowledge of functional area and uses this knowledge in delivering on the client requirements
  • Provides authoritative advice related to functional area to leaders and clients
  • May be responsible for developing and/or marketing new products or services
  • Responsible for lead generation, submission of proposals and closing deals
  • Ownership of delivery on tier 1 clients and winning business for tier 2 clients.
  • Has direct responsibility for management of a team/teams
  • Assesses performance and determines learning and development requirements of team
  • Work consists primarily of management of the delivery of team to achieve strategic objectives and projects in support of longer term service line goals
  • As much work is assigned/delegated to others – skilful planning is required
  • Approves solutions to very complex problems and formulates recommendations on course of action that may have a significant impact on the service line/client
Decision Making
  • Makes decisions of a complex nature related to area of expertise
  • Exercises a significant amount of judgement, guided by general policy and business objectives in identifying, adapting and applying procedures and approaches to address unusual situations and resolve conflicts
  • Has discretion to define solutions within broad framework of policy, guiding principles and best practice
Leadership
  • Establishes authority, respect and rapport with employee team in order to build enthusiasm for realising the service line strategies and values
  • Recommends promotion and/or transfer of direct reports and recruits direct reports
  • Ensures all employees in team receive necessary coaching as required
  • Identifies personal development needs and jointly sets personal plan with team leader
  • Ensures that personal plans are in place for team members and that the performance assessment process is applied throughout the department
Must have:
  • Experience with a tier-one professional services firm
  • A minimum of 15 years consulting experience
  • Experience and deep knowledge of working in industry
  • A minimum of 15 year industry experience advantageous

Must in addition possess the following:

  • Completed undergraduate degree with outstanding academic credentials preferably engineering or equivalent
  • A relevant B. Degree with a MBA being beneficial
  • A postgraduate qualification, 10 years of experience or the equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • A proven track record of leading and delivering complex projects
  • Extensive experience in leading client relationships and client–facing advisory projects,
  • The proven ability to generate significant sales from clients and develop business through leading bids, proposals and negotiations
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills (MS Visio, MS PowerPoint)
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment
  • Eagerness to mentor junior staff
  • Facilitation, communication and data analysis skills
  • Ability to travel
