SALARY: Ordinarily Resident (OR): ZK 56,066.17 p.a. (Starting salary) (Position Grade: FSN- 2); *Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR): $ 20,419.00 USD p.a. (Starting salary determined by Washington) (Position Grade: FP-CC)
The U.S. Embassy in Lusaka is seeking to hire two individuals for the Trades Helper positions in the Mission’s Facility Management Section.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
The Trades Helper provides assistance in routine mechanical, electrical, carpentry, ironworks, gardening, and plumbing repairs and installations in conjunction with technicians and mechanics. S/he assists in various manual tasks such as demolition work, painting, plumbing, carpentry, routine maintenance, and general cleaning. The incumbent prepares worksites and maintains tools and equipment, brings tools, supplies and materials to worksites, cleans the site, loads and unloads materials and also loads construction debris into dump truck. S/he uses hand and power tools under the supervision of the technicians and mechanics as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.
SELECTION PROCESS
  1. Successful completion of senior secondary school is required.
  2. Two (2) years of maintenance or construction semi-skilled work experience in skilled trades with significant focus on building systems is required.
  3. Level III (Good Working Knowledge) English is required. Language proficiency will be tested.
  4. A general understanding in the use of specialty tools and equipment required to properly install, repair and maintain building systems is required.
  5. Ability to read and interpret schematic drawings and manufacture’s technical data is required.
  6. Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment and parts weighing a minimum of 25 kilograms is required.
