Lab Technologist job in Zambia

Akros is hiring a lab technologist for the molecular biology laboratory at the National Malaria Control Centre. The work will primarily focus on determining the serological and genetic ‘fingerprint’ or genotypic characterization of a range of specimens. The project aims to generate molecular evidence to guide / inform malaria intervention and control measures in Zambia.
Responsibilities
• Accurately prepare chemical reagents / solutions according to formulae
• Maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment
• Perform analyses while adhering to SOP’s as directed
• Maintain detailed records of all work
• Analyze data generated and interpret results for presentation
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science qualification in life sciences or similar appropriate field (Essential)
• Minimum 2 years post-graduate experience in a research /diagnostic laboratory (Essential)
• Masters level qualification in life sciences or similar appropriate field (Desirable)
• Experience with DNA extraction protocols and genotyping for malaria (Desirable)
Personal Qualities
• Ability to perform tasks methodically at a consistently high level
• Excellent writing, computer, management and organizational skills
• Ability to keep records, with an attention to detail
• Capable of working individually and planning experiments
This position is available immediately, and subject to a probationary term, will be for a period of 6 months. Extensions may be available contingent upon performance and donor funding. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.
