Biological Coordinator

Biological Coordinator (Temporary Position)
The Population Council is conducting a large, household based field study that includes the HIV, HSV-2 and anemia testing of study participants. The Council is seeking a temporary employee with a one year assignment to serve as biological coordinator to oversee the testing of participants and the management of biological specimens.
RESPONSIBLITIES
  • Coordinate the HIV, HSV-2 and anemia testing of all study participants
  • Centrifuge biological specimens, store samples and prepare samples for transport to the laboratory
  • Training enumerators in the standard operating and quality assurance procedures related to testing and specimen collection
  • Organize the procurement of all supplies and materials need for biological specimen collection
  • Organize and manage the dissemination of testing results to study participants
  • Conduct quality assurance oversight of laboratory testing
  • Develop and implement quality assurance and monitoring protocols of field-based testing
  • Manage and monitor project testing and specimen collection equipment status and condition
  • Provide study progress reports to investigators
  • Monitor compliance with study ethical and operational protocols
  • Assist in any other study related tasks as deemed necessary by project team
Required qualifications
  • Advanced degree or diploma in biology, molecular biology or public health
  • Training and certification for HIV Voluntary Counseling and Testing and psychosocial counseling certification
  • Training and certification in the use of HIV test kits
  • Training and certification in good laboratory practice and quality assurance
  • Training and certification in handling and transportation of biological specimens
  • Training and certification in good clinical practice
  • Experience in handling and testing biological specimens
  • Experience in household based testing and specimen collection
  • Must be willing to travel throughout Zambia for a minimum of 6 months of fieldwork
  • Management experience
