Lecturer in Mechanics

INSTITUTION DESCRIPTION:
The Chikowa Youth Development Centre (CYDC) is a Catholic technical college for youth which belongs to the Diocese of Chipata in Zambia and is run by the Comboni Missionaries. The main objective of the centre is to provide an affordable and quality technical training and human formation to the youth of the Eastern Province. The CYDC makes a priority to reach out to the youths coming from low-income families who are fighting for a better future.
At present, the CYDC offers courses in Carpentry & Joinery (TRADE), Bricklaying & Plastering (TRADE), and General Agriculture (CRAFT) and is registered under TEVETA. Currently, there are 52 students and the maximum capacity is 100. In January 2016, the school will open a new course in automotive mechanics at the CRAFT level.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The lecturer and head of department in mechanics will:
  • Implement the new course: Create the timetable, define the needs in requirements, tools and preparation of the mechanic workshop with the support of the school management.
  • Teach: Lecture in the following subject: engine systems, engineering science, engineering drawing, electrical and electronics, and mechanic practicals.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of Advanced Certificate (Technician) in Automotive Technology or related programme plus related industrial experience. Experience in teaching and/or recognized teaching qualification is also required.
CONTRACT AND LOCATION:
Approximate start date in September 2015 (to prepare the new course) until December 2016 with possibility of extension. Accommodation provided (with electricity and water), salary depending on qualifications and experience. Chikowa is based in the Eastern Province, Mambwe District (about 100km from Chipata)
