Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa.

The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Technical Advisor Drilling Operations.

Reporting to the Coordinator – Drill and Blast, you will be responsible for achieving compliance to safety and quality standards through training and development of the mine’s personnel.

• Advise the Drill and Blast Coordinator that a safe working environment for all staff including associated contractors is maintained at all times.
• Provide necessary input into drill and blast design.
• Implement improved drilling technics that bolsters drilling and mining productivity.
• Advise on all drilling operational standards.
• Continuously monitor the drill contractor to render high level of service in GET management and supply.
• Monitor the drill contractor to meet and exceed their contractual obligations.
• Develop continuous improvement strategies, communicate and implement accordingly.
• Assist with daily pit drilling activities to ensure that production schedules and targets are achieved in a cost effective manner.
• Ensure that all drilling information is recorded and that all drilling reports are correct, accurate and timely submitted.
• Ongoing research and development in the market place, suppliers and other users for new market products, trends and methods to improve drilling performance.
• Manage and action performance of all drill crews to achieve required safety and quality standards

• Recognized academic qualification in relevant field
• Minimum of 10 years proven experience in large open pit operations utilising rotary and percussion drill rigs.
• At least 5 years experience in a senior supervisory role
• Experience in managing costs and budgeting
• Competent in incident/ accident investigation
• Exceptional attitude to safety
• Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
• Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications
• Ability to obtain a blasting certificate in Zambia
